Director, Translational Research (GB19-190)

Summary of the Position

The Director reports to the VP, Translational Research and has primary responsibility for supporting research efforts for the Company’s programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Play an integral role in developing the pre-clinical pipeline through maintaining and building relationships for the outsourcing of pre-clinical projects, selection and validation of external vendors, oversee testing, data analysis and development of pre-clinical and clinical assay protocols, reports and registration activities as required
  • Serve as program leader providing scientific insight and drug development leadership as well as project management to move programs from discovery to clinical development
  • Provide day-to-day scientific, technical and organizational leadership to assist internal and external personnel
  • Stay apprised of current advancements, trends and new developments in Catalyst’s core and adjacent therapy areas to ensure access to state-of-art thinking, approaches and evaluate impact to Catalyst’s business goals
  • Participate in business development due diligence of current and adjunct therapy areas to evaluate synergy with the Company’s core mission and identify potential business partners
  • Maintain scientific awareness regarding advances in indications of interest and follow trends and competition through literature, conferences and stakeholder interactions
  • Travel globally to represent Catalyst for partnership development purposes and support the success of collaboration between Catalyst and the external scientific community, as required
  • Partner with key Catalyst functions including Business Development, Clinical Operations, Manufacturing, Project Management, Finance and Regulatory Affairs

Qualifications/skills Required:

  • Ph.D. in a biological science and post-doctoral fellowship in a related discipline
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the management of mixed matrix cross-functional team with increasing levels of responsibility in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledgeable with assays and analytics employed to measure and quantify drug efficacy
  • Expertise in designing, conducting and directing translational pre-clinical and clinical efficacy and safety studies (both in vitro and in vivo)
  • Proven success in strategic planning, project leadership, laboratory and budget management in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to effectively manage vendors globally
  • Experience supervising GLP studies and knowledgeable of the GLP process
  • Former experience as a principal investigator in academic and/or industry settings, assay development, IND development and a strong publication record in top tier journals
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, displaying scientific curiosity, scientific rational inquiry and pre-clinical and clinical development methodologies
  • Demonstrated excellence as a translational researcher a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in enzymology and complement biology or gene therapy a plus
