Associate Director/Director, Project Management (NC20-226)

Catalyst Biosciences is seeking a passionate, experienced, and collaborative Associate Director/Director, Project Management for its South San Francisco HQ. The position reports directly to the Vice President, Project Management and offers a highly visible opportunity to make an impact and significantly contribute to managing multiple internal and globally partnered drug discovery programs in a fast-growing company.

Catalyst is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel medicines to address important unmet medical needs in patients with rare bleeding and complement related disorders. Catalyst has compounds in development that span the value chain from the early discovery stage to late stage clinical trials with the intent of commercialization.

The Associate Director/Director, Project Management, partners with the Program Lead to drive the development and execution of high quality, global, integrated cross-functional project plans that enable overall program strategy, directly interacting with global collaborators across Academia and Industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop program strategy, and identify key goals with input from internal stakeholders

  • Establish, implement and maintain detailed project plans through partnering with program leads

  • Identify risks to the project schedule and develop contingency/mitigation plans to keep projects on track and help resolve team challenges

  • Manage interfaces with academia and industry external collaboration partners through strong partnership and teamwork, progressing programs as planned

  • Lead program teams through development stages ensuring transparent communication of status and optimal communication flow within the project teams

  • Direct highly complex project communications and escalate project or resource issues and risks to functional management in a timely fashion

  • Ensure project integration into overall plan, monitor project deliverables, and provide clear communication on probabilities and impact

  • Support development and adherence to program budget through pro-active identification and resolution of any program or resource issues

  • Ensure implementation of effective processes and innovative solutions to support efficiencies in management of programs

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (M.S., PhD) required

  • Minimum of 6 years work experience in biotechnology, consulting or related areas, of which 3+ years managing projects

  • Proven experience facilitating project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making and ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment

  • Early stage drug discovery and development experience with biologics is considered a clear advantage

  • Highly collaborative team player with excellent communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills ensuring optimal project team performance in matrix environment

  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight in a dynamic environment

  • Proficient in project management principles and tools i.e. MS Project, team collaboration tools

  • Experience successfully managing external collaboration partners

  • Proven track record of innovative problem solving
